SALMON

John Salmon (1825-1909)

John Salmon had his place of business on Seymour Street (initially at number 4 and then number 24) in London. In 1851, he described himself as a philosophical instrument maker, in 1861 he was a mathematical instrument maker and in later years, an optician. It seems to have been a fairly small enterprise – advertisements in the local papers and commercial directories are few and far between. Within a year of John’s death, 24 Seymour Street was occupied by CH Bayley, a corn dealer.
