This is the viewer of a cathetometer. It needs to be mounted on a heavy tripod.
There is a threaded eyepiece, the signature is corroded and therefore difficult to read: 825 or R25 / NOI [in logo].
A conversion lens is missing.
A cathetometer is an instrument for measuring vertical distances in cases where a scale cannot be placed very close to the points whose distance apart is desired. The instrument consists essentially of an accurately graduated scale and a horizontal telescope capable of being moved up and down a rigid vertical column.
This cathetometer has been donated to the foundation by Peter Paul de Bruijn.
