BIANCHI

Barthélémy-Urbain Bianchi (1821-1898)

Bianchi first entered the Gambey workshop in Paris as a student. In 1840, he started his own instrument-manufacturing company. He designed a range of physical instruments, some of which were exhibited at London’s World Exhibition of 1855 (e.g. precision balances and a rotating air pumps). Bianchi’s work was frequently honoured, and he was made a Knight (1862) and then an Officer of the Légion d’Honneur.
