This is the ‘M2000’ type stand, introduced by Cooke, Troughton & Simms in 1942, this specimen is of a later date and it is provided with a phase contrast condenser and corresponding objectives. The ‘M2000’ was marketed for ‘routine and research investigations’. The stand uses a modified horseshoe foot and the limb can be tilted over 90 degrees, there is a clamping screw. There is a large revolving mechanical stage with a 360 degrees scale. Below the stage the condensor with its set of four phase contrast rings, with correspond with the four phase contrast objectives in the objective revolver. The microscope has a mirror in a bracket. Coarse adjustment is by rack and pinion. The fine adjustment uses a complex mechanism acting on the nosepiece with the objective revolver. The microscope has a binocular tube with adjustable eye distance and one eyepiece has a compensating ring.
