Description

This is an example of the Zeiss ESG stand as illustrated in the 1934 Zeiss catalogue. The microscope has a molded horseshoe stand with two flanges between which the limb can be inclined over an angle of 90 degrees. There is a square mechanical stage. The fine adjustment control is located near the top of the limb, close to the coarse adjustment. It acts on the dovetailed block with rackwork for the coarse adjustment. The wide body tube has an objective changer. Below the stage a condenser adjustable by rackwork and a mirror in a bracket. The instrument is black enamelled and some parts are nickel or chromium plated.

The previous owner of this microscope was the ophtalmologist A.K.J. Horst. His father R.I. Horst (1919-2005), also ophthalmologist, bought this microscope second-hand. Both father and son used this microscope during their study medicine.
