A simple dissection microscope, mounted on a wooden board are the two arm rests with in between the large circular brass stage, of which the glass plate is missing. The achromatic objective is mounted on a rod which can slide in a sleeve, allowing aquatic motion. The sleeve is mounted on top of a pillar, adjustment is by rackwork.
The objective lens is made up of two achromatic doublet lenses, they can be used together and the upper one marked ‘4 inch’ can be used singly.
The focal length of the combination of the two doublets is 35.1 mm, the magnification is 7×.
The focal length of the ‘4 inch’ doublet is 67.3 mm, its magnification is 3.7×.
