Richard Beck (1827-1866) and Joseph Beck (1824-1891)

After James Smith’s retirement in 1865, Richard and Joseph Beck changed the name of the company to R. & J. Beck. Richard Beck died in 1866, aged 39. Joseph continued the company, making microscopes and cameras. It became R & J Ltd in 1894, and was then taken over by Griffin & George Ltd in 1960.
