This is a nice specimen of Zeiss stand IX, a simple stand for laboratory and technical purposes. It was produced from before 1889 until circa 1922. The stand is molded in one piece. It has a large plain circular stage with spring clips, in the stage a large round hole for which a diaphragm is available. There is a plane and concave mirror on a swinging bar and adjustable in a bracket, allowing for oblique illumination. Adjustment is by rack and pinion.
This microscope was recommended for the detection of Trichina in meat (pork), obliged for the abattoirs in Germany. For the detection the transparent glass plates were used.
