Description

This box with polarimeter tubes has been donated to the Foundation by Frans Arnold. Frans was the first lecturer in chemistry at the Thomas More College, the Hague (1960-1969). In addition and afterwards he worked for the KNCV and Radboud University as a course didacticist and innovator of chemistry education and from 2004-2010 under the auspices of the SLO in Enschede.
The tubes orginate from the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam (UVA). Frans got it in 1967 and used them for his lessons at school. He had made a polarimeter himself. With this, the angle of rotation of polarized light could be determined and thus also the concentration of solutions.
